Are Electric Bikes Legal in the UK?
EAPCs – electric bikes or e-bikes in common parlance – must now meet the following criteria in order to have the same legal standing as regular non-assisted bicycles and to be allowed on roads, cycle paths and other places where bicycles are allowed under UK law:

UK E-Bike Law: Key Requirements
To be road legal in the UK, your e-bike must meet ALL of the following conditions:
1. Pedal Assist Only
The bike must have pedals and the motor should only assist when you are pedalling.
2. Maximum Power: 250 Watts
The motor output must not exceed 250W continuous power.
3. Speed Limit: 15.5 mph (25 km/h)
Motor assistance must cut off once you reach 15.5 mph.
4. Minimum Rider Age: 14
You must be at least 14 years old to legally ride an e-bike in the UK.
